It looks like a scene from ‘Pitch Perfect 2: Arabian Night’— the acapella singing, the finger snaps, and the whistling and beard scratching.
But “No Woman, No Drive” is a satirical song by Hisham Fageeh, 26, an Arab-American comedian living in Saudi Arabia, to poke fun at his country’s ultra-conservative authorities. The video was uploaded on Youtube on Oct. 26, 2013, the same day that women in Saudi courageously got behind the wheel to protest the ban on women driving.
This ingenious video has gone viral ever since with over 7.6 million views. We especially love the part when Fageeh mocks a recent comment made by a Saudi cleric that driving could damage women’s ovaries.
"Say I remember when you used to sit, in the family car but back seat, ova-ovaries all safe and well, so you can make lots and lots of babies,” a deadpan Fageeh sings to the accompaniment of the various sounds he makes himself.
So what do you think, ladies, is it time the Saudi government overturn that medieval ban on women driving? Share your thoughts here.
