Hello Magdalene readers! Who can believe that it’s already July? To be honest, as ever, there is no “good” and “bad” in astrology, but it would be fair to say that July is going to be one of the most challenging times of the year. Just some of the astrological issues that we are going to have to deal with include Mercury going retrograde from 7 - 31 July , as well as Solar and Lunar eclipses. This means that everything could seem stuck throughout the month, and we will struggle to get things done or make decisions. The key is to treat July as a time to rest, look back and recharge, and leave the decision making until August when things have calmed down a bit.
Here’s how it is all going to go down:
2 July: New Moon in Cancer and Solar Eclipse
The month starts with a bang with the New Moon and Solar Eclipse. This is a time when things are concealed from view, but you could also get a surprise now. The thing to remember is that this is not a good time to make decisions, so take whatever happens with a pinch of salt.
16 July: Full Moon in Capricorn and Lunar Eclipse
Full Moons are times of endings usually, and this is also a Lunar Eclipse, so it’s even more potent. If something comes to an end now, then it’s a sign that you need to let go of some area of your life and look at new ways of doing things. The key is to try not to cling to the past at this time. Onwards!
And now for a look at each individual sign…
Cancer
Happy birthday, Cancer! It’s your birthday month throughout much of July which means that you will be in the spotlight, but you also have two eclipses to deal with, which makes things a little less restive than usual. That said, rest is really what you need to do now, as you have had so much on your plate lately. As Mercury is also retrograde, it means that you would do well to do a little soul searching now, and you need to think of this as a kind of cosmic New Year. Where do you see yourself this time next year and how do you plan on getting there? What parts of your life would you like to change and how can you achieve your goals? All in all, this could be a time of endings for you, but you need to learn to embrace the changes and let go of some aspects of the past. These will probably be linked to your persona, your identity, and the nuts and bolts of who you are as a person. The path to a new life lies ahead!
Leo
This month you have Sun in your Twelfth House of endings, Leo, and this also comes during a month with two eclipses, which usually bring great changes with them. As a result, you could find that your life experiences one or two shake ups, but the trick is to make sure you don’t react to these too emotionally. This is easier said than done for a passionate Fire sign, but you need to try and take a deep breath as these changes happen, and don’t allow yourself to say or do things that you will regret in the future. At the end of the day, all change is scary, but it will also liberate you. As this is a month to rest and recharge, spend some time alone thinking about how you want the next twelve months to work out. This is about soul stuff and your inner world, so you could start a new spiritual practice now or similar. Keep an open mind, Leo!
Virgo
Throughout June you have the Sun in your Eleventh House of friends and groups, so this is where the magic will happen, although you will also need a large dose of patience. You could find that you get the chance to collaborate with people around you, and this could be anything from a rock band situation to a book club. Whatever it is, offers to work with those close to you may come your way, but it could also be that these plans and projects don’t have a clear path to success. As such, say “yes” to anything that comes your way, but remember that it will probably take until late August for everything to be signed, sealed and delivered. With that in mind, ask lots of questions, but don’t sign anything if you can avoid it. When it comes to your love life, fertility is highlighted for your sign now, so if you have been hoping to start a family then now is the time when you could hear some exciting news!
Libra
You have the Sun in your Tenth House of career throughout much of July, Libra, and so you could find that you get some good news related to your job or your position at work. That said, with two eclipses and Mercury going retrograde, you need to slow down and make sure you walk before you run. Offers may seem too good to be true, and it will not be until August that they finally take shape for you. For now, try to get clear confirmation from others on what they are proposing, and get things in writing when it comes to your roles and responsibilities. This is an excellent time for you to work on projects that have been in the works for some time, as you will have the stamina to finish them, although it is not a great time to start anything new. With that in mind, don’t be surprised if people reach out to you, or if you become famous for your work this month. A workplace romance could also be on the cards for some of you, as you get closer to someone you collaborate with.
Scorpio
This continues to be a very important time for you, Scorpio, and you have the Sun in your Ninth House of travel and foreigners throughout July. This could see you kicking off the month by taking a trip somewhere, and this is an excellent thing for you to do when we have such a slow down in the heavens. The best idea now is to get away from it all and take some time to relax and think about the future. It could be that you find yourself at something of a crossroads in life, and you could be thinking about your home life and where you want to live and work. There could be a strong desire to relocate now, but you need to give this some time to work out. If you can, avoid making any important decisions now, and instead work on doing some soul searching. Foreign connections are highlighted for you now, but you need to think through any of the offers or projects that come your way. August will show you a clear path forward.
Sagittarius
The Sun is in your Eighth House of other people’s money, Sagittarius, and this is also the house that rules debts and taxes. As such, with the two eclipses covering things up, you may find that you are hit with a big bill, or that you miscalculated the amount of money in your savings account or similar. Remember that eclipses block out the big picture, so it could take time for you to find out exactly what has gone wrong here. On the flipside, you may find that money comes to you through an inheritance or similar now, but again this may come as a surprise to you and you will not be getting the full picture now. With that in mind, take care when it comes to your finances in July. Another thing to remember, is that the Eighth House also rules sex and sexual relationships, so this is another area where you could get some surprising news!
Capricorn
This month you have the Sun in your Seventh House of relationships, Capricorn, and you could find that this is a tricky area of your life where you will need to be extra patient! Relationships with others could seem a little strained, and you may even find that a relationship ends around the time of the Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse which fall on 16 July in your own sign. If this happens, then you need to know that it’s for the best, and there is no sense in clinging to a relationship if it has run its course. The best thing you can do is embrace a new path to freedom. It may not be that dramatic however, and it could be that you need to do some relationship repair work now that sees you and a partner (either romantic or professional) in a more honest place in the future. One key thing to remember this month is that you need to be diplomatic with those close to you. Avoid saying anything that you will regret later!
Aquarius
July sees the Sun in your Sixth House of health, Aquarius, and this is the area where you could get something of a wake up call. It may be that you have been burning the candle at both ends, or you may have had a nagging health issue for some time which now becomes a real problem. The eclipses could shine a light on some of this, but they also tend to conceal, so try to avoid having tests close to the eclipse dates, and get a second opinion. This does not mean that it’s not a good time to take care of your health though - in fact it’s quite the opposite, and if you need medical treatment then you must not delay. Just be mindful that it may take some time for a full diagnosis to be clear. Even if you are in good health now, this is a great time for you to do something like overhaul your diet, and you may think about starting a new exercise regime. Just make sure you get plenty of rest at the same time as you will likely feel more easily tired with the eclipses and Mercury in retrograde.
Pisces
This month you have the Sun in your Fifth House of true love, Pisces, and this is where things get a little stuck thanks to the heavens. At this time, you could find that the course of true love does not run smooth, so you need to be extra cautious about the things you say now. Definitely count to ten before you speak, in case you say something you can’t take back at a time when Mercury is causing issues with getting your message across. That said, this is a great time to get away if you can and consider what you want out of your love life. The Fifth House also rules children, so this time is likely to have you thinking about relationships that involve offspring. Again, patience is advised for all signs now, and it is much better to wait until the end of August to make any changes to your relationship or family set up. Nothing is clear now and emotions are running high. Let the dust settle for now!
Aries
This month you have the Sun in your Fourth House of home, Aries, so you could find that you want to spend more time inside than outside. This is unusual for your spirited Fire sign, as you usually prefer to be out and about in the world. It’s not that this is a bad idea exactly, but just that everything in your chart points to the need to slow down and smell the roses. You may also find that you want to spend some time sprucing up your home, and actually a retrograde period is a great time to get rid of old clothes, books and other items that no longer serve you. Just make sure not to make expensive home improvements now, as you may find you regret making any sweeping changes. The Fourth House also rules family, so you may find yourself getting closer to your nearest and dearest now. Throughout July, home is truly where your heart is, Aries!
Taurus
If you work in a field that is about getting your voice out there, such as podcasting, publishing, sales, or similar, then this is a month when you need to refine the message. On the one hand, you could find that you are asked to work on an amazing new project that will reshape the way people hear or see you. On the other, be careful about making yourself heard and understood, as Mercury retrograde has a way of scrambling signals which means you could say something you regret on social media! Think before you hit the “send” button on emails or social media posts, and count to ten before you fire off an angry message to someone close to you. This is a strange month for you, as communication can both sparkle for you and also cause you to tear your hair out. Like all signs, you will need to conduct yourself with grace and dignity this month - which is easier for you than most, Taurus!
Gemini
Money matters come to the fore this month, Gemini, as you have the Sun in your Second House of finance. This is a month when finances could be a little all over the place, and if you have been spending too much then now is the time to really start crunching the numbers. The eclipses could mean that you find yourself hit with a surprise bill, and if that is the case you need to take it as a lesson from the heavens - always have some money tucked away for a rainy day! At the same time, you may find that money comes to you unexpectedly when you most need it. If that happens, then be grateful but also consider putting some of it in a savings plan or similar.
