Dear R.L.,
Do you have any suggestion/recommendation about traveling during festival season? It can be music festival, cultural, or food. Is it worth the money to go see the festival and buy the festival ticket or is it overrated and overpriced?
Thanks,
P
Dear P,
A festival can be an enriching event, or it can be a waste of time and resources. At the very least, it could be a great place for networking with likeminded fellows who share your particular interest. But as with anything else, before you spend a fortune on anything, do some research first.
Make sure you know what you're getting into. Read the festival website to get a sense of what the festival is about. Observe the programs, read the speakers bios, google its participants. See if the festival format allows you to achieve your objectives.
For example, are you going to be able to enjoy the performances in a music festival, if they're spread out in several stages in two days? If it still sounds like your cup of tea, trawl the blogosphere to read reviews of said festival. Read up people's experience on the festival, and compare notes. Is the festival well organized? Do they offer the audience enough interaction with the speakers? How is their safety record, ease of access? Etc, etc.
If you manage to tick off most of your checklist, and you have the funds, by all means, go. And enjoy.
Happy travels!
