Book worms and arts lovers, get ready for an exciting weekend! In celebration of its first anniversary, publishing initiative Comma Books will hold “A Little Pause”, a two-day event comprising book launches, workshops, and arts exhibition on Dec. 8 and 9.
Comma Books is a unit within publishing house Kepustakaan Populer Gramedia that produces works of fiction and non-fiction. It aims to put a spotlight on young, contemporary, emerging writers. Books published by Comma Books have won awards and grants, and exhibited in a number of literary festivals, such as Ubud Writers and Readers Festival, Frankfurt Book Fair, and London Book Fair.
Comma Books attempts to fuse literature with visual arts, films, theater, and music. In A Little Pause, writers are provided a space to showcase their works in reading sessions, musical performances, and interpretative exhibition.
The event will be opened on Dec. 8 with an art exhibition and a series of writing workshops facilitated by authors Leila Chudori, Raka Ibrahim, Muhammad Wahyudi, Andre Septiawan, Agung Setiawan, Waraney Rawung, Farhanah, and Edo Wallad. A series of discussion-based workshops will cover diverse themes such as identity, language, emotion and styles, in the forms of stort stories, essays, and poetry.
On the second day writers Rain Chudori and Famega Syavira will give a writing workshop about Crafting Womanhood: On Writing about the Self and the World. Comma Books will also launch its most recently published books written by authors involved in the festival, including Kelana, Pujangga Series, Emerging Writers Series and Biru dan Kisah-kisah Lainnya.
Typography exhibition materials are specifically curated from books published by Comma Books, and visual art works shown at this event are the result of collaborations between Comma Books and Contempt Studio. Participants can also also enjoy reading sessions and acoustic performances during the two-day event.
